In the past few weeks, vindicated Patriots quarterback Tom Brady confirmed his Donald Trump fandom by sporting a “Make America Great Again” hat and saying that Trump “would be great” if he became president.
Despite this friendship with the frontrunning plutocrat, however, Brady said in an interview with Dennis, Callahan & Minihane that politics isn’t really his thing, and clarified his previous statements.
“Even an off-handed comment like that…people may run with [it],” Brady said. “I understand why people do run with it, because you get the clicks and that type of stuff. It’s just people doing their job. A comment like that, I try to have fun with certain things.”
Brady wouldn’t say one way or another whether he was voting for Trump, but elaborated that he’s known Trump for a long time, that his words were taken out of context, and that its probably best to “say as little as possible.”
Brady acknowledged that Trump’ was a “fun guy” whose presence has had a massive effect on the 2016 race, but impressed that for now, he was keeping his vote close to his chest.
“It’s so far away from when the election will be, and whatever I vote is going to be my own personal choice based on how I feel,” Brady said. “I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time. It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar.”
