Hannity, Panel Roast Nate Silver’s Election Forecast: ‘It’s Like the Biggest CYA!’
On the eve of the 2018 midterms, Sean Hannity and his panel mocked FiveThirtyEight editor-in-chief Nate Silver for his election forecast.
Hannity began by noting how many polls have tightened between Democrats and Republicans in recent weeks and how Silver gave then-candidate Donald Trump an 80 percent chance of losing in the 2016 election.
Silver came out with a report most recent analysis of the polls about how Democrats “aren’t certain” to take back the House, but they still have an 80 percent chance to pick up 20-50 seats.
Maybe something people don’t get is that it’s possible to have both a very wide range and a reasonably confident prediction about which party gets 218+ seats. This is from the Deluxe version of our forecast, for instance. https://t.co/auwMtE7pvc pic.twitter.com/9ikSWTh3vL

Hannity found this humorous.
“He writes this piece today and he’s like, ‘Well, it could be between 15 and 50 [House seats picked up by Democrats],’ which is like the biggest cya!” Hannity told the panel. “And I’m kind of laughing. I don’t know- we’ll find out a lot more by the end of tomorrow night and early on Wednesday morning whether or not polls in the era of Trump mean anything.”
NRA TV host Dan Bongino sarcastically praised Silver’s “bold prediction.”
‘They can pick up anywhere from zero to 435 seats. That’s a great job, Nate!” Bongino laughed. “You really pinned it down for us!”
