Hilarious: Meg Whitman’s Press Secretary Gets URL Wrong, Tweets Out…Something
Ah, the importance of one little letter. A couple of days ago, the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County endorsed Meg Whitman, something her senior consultant, Mike Murphy, tweeted out. Whitman’s press secretary, Sarah Pompei, then retweeted Murphy, however, she accidentally cut off one letter from the URL. So, instead of sending Twitter followers to a blog post about the endorsement, she sent them to a video of…something else.
Yes, it’s a video of a man in a pretty princess costume pretending to play the guitar to an Asian pop song. Either San Diego’s Deputy Sheriff’s Association is much, much, much more interesting than it sounds, or this was a mistake. More likely it’s the latter which means that there is a very confused (in a couple of ways) guy on the other side of the world right now trying to figure out why his video’s suddenly so popular.
Let this be a lesson to all of us: always watch your Twitter 140 character limit and make sure you get your shortened URLs exactly right or…this will happen. Check out the two original tweets below as well as the rocking video.
UPDATE: I’ve just been reminded that this has happened before. Watch those bit.ly’s, people!
