Hot Mic Catches Trump Awkwardly Leaving G20 Photo Op Stage: ‘Get Me Outta Here’
President Donald Trump abruptly rushed off stage in the middle of a photo op with the event’s host, Argentinian President Mauricio Macri, and “get me outta’ here” over a hot mic, leaving Macri confused and alone on stage. Trump, who stormed off after shaking hands with the leader and posing for several photos, was quickly pursued by an aide, which is when the slip-up over the mic can be heard.
Oddly enough, per Splinter, the president has a very, very, very, very long history of randomly walking away from presidential tasks that are directly in front of him or he’s in the middle of, including incidents in Poland, where he wandered outside his protective bulletproof glass barrier to appear to walk toward live music; outside Air Force One, where he exited the plane and was supposed to enter a waiting limo right in front of him, but is instead seen unexpectedly walking away from the car until aides rush him back; and a White House executive order signing, where Vice President Mike Pence had to tell a wandering Trump he had to actually sign it.
The incident most similar to his G20-Macri gaffe involves Trump just ditching Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and walking out of a presser in Israel last year without shaking his peer’s hand. By the end of the clip, the president can be seen returning to Netanyahu’s side and shaking his hand, but — as is the case in Argentina and elsewhere — it’s unclear what motivated him to suddenly leave in the first place.
