Huh?! Scott Pruitt Reportedly Lobbied Trump to Fire Jeff Sessions And Let Him Run DOJ Instead
Just when you think the Scott Pruitt news could not possibly get any weirder, get ready for this new one.
CNN is reporting this afternoon that Pruitt lobbied President Donald Trump to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replace him with Attorney General Scott Pruitt.
Embattled Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Scott Pruitt directly appealed to President Donald Trump this spring to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions and let him run the Department of Justice instead, according to three people familiar with the proposal. In an Oval Office conversation with Trump, Pruitt offered to temporarily replace Sessions for 210 days under the Vacancies Reform Act, telling the President he would return to Oklahoma afterward to run for office.
The appeal did not work, though CNN’s report notes it came at a time when Trump was stewing over Sessions’ recusal from the Russia investigation.
Pruitt, of course, has been in the news for all sorts of scandalous/weird decisions, including today’s report that he made staffers pay for his hotel stays then refused to reimburse them.
Pruitt has been plagued by scandal for weeks now. National Review said last month it’s time for him to go. And yet he remains.
