‘I Am Alive So Must Live’: Lawmaker’s First Remarks Since Stabbing, Son’s Suicide
Earlier this week, Virginia State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) was stabbed by his 24-year-old son Austin “Gus” Deeds who, shortly thereafter, committed suicide. Friday morning after emerging from the hospital, Deeds sent out a heartbreaking message of carrying on after such a painful tragedy has befallen his family.
“I am alive so must live,” the lawmaker tweeted. “Some wounds won’t heal,” he lamented, but, “Your prayers and your friendship are important to me.”
