A Fox Sports Florida reporter has been yanked from the air after she made some racially dicey comments on a Facebook Live video this week.
Emily Austen was part of a Barstool Sports video, and she had some fun basically shooting the shit with the other guys, but perhaps things got a bit too comfortable. The video below was originally pulled from Facebook for unclear reasons, but as you can see, it’s still out there…
The first remark starts a little after the 24-minute mark, when they all talk about the backlash over a Texas valedictorian revealing she’s an undocumented immigrant. After a bunch of bantering where they all say that was stupid, Austen said, “I didn’t even know Mexicans were that smart.”
Her co-hosts teased her a bit––one called her “Trump Jr.”––and Austen went on to say, “I know that’s fucked up, I didn’t mean it like that, just––I mean, you know like the Chinese guy’s the smartest guy in math class.”
And then she got into some awkward talk about Jews she talked to in Boca.
Well, Fox Sports Florida became aware of Austen’s remarks and sent a statement to the Tampa Bay Times saying she’s been pulled from future on-air appearances:
We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with Fox Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of Fox Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming Fox Sports Florida or Fox Sports Sun broadcasts.
