‘I’m in the Middle of Having My Teeth Cleaned!’: Streisand Preoccupied During Live MSNBC Interview
For people who had “Brett Favre” and “Barbra Streisand” marked off in the office pool of MSNBC Monday night call-in guests, you won big tonight. Just minutes after Greta Van Susteren closed out her debut episode of For The Record with a surprise call from the Green Bay Packer great, Hardball host Chris Matthews took a call from none other than Babs herself.
Streisand was a phone-in guest Monday night to address that Golden Globes speech given the night before by Meryl Streep that earned both widespread praise and rebuke. And although the interview seemed to be going alright, Streisand at one point made an odd admission to Matthews.
“You know I’m in the middle of having my teeth cleaned!” Streisand told the Hardball host after giving her own repudiation of the President-elect. “Chris, you caught me at a disadvantage.”
Matthews laughed it off quickly before moving on. Streisand did use the opportunity to congratulate her pal Streep on her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award Sunday. “I was very proud of her and she’s a wonderful actress; that [Trump] had to denigrate her talent because she spoke out… why isn’t he sitting through, you know, briefings instead of Tweeting this nonsense?”
Also, points to Streisand for his little ditty that she tells Matthews: “I think it’s what they see. Children will listen — I sang that in song once.” The legendary artist concluded the cable news hit by thanking Matthews with the cheerful realization, “Thank you so much! I can go back to my teeth cleaning now.”
