Just hours after shocking the NBA world with news that he would be leaving Miami and taking his talents to Chicago, superstar Dwyane Wade cohosted Live with Kelly on ABC. It didn’t take long for the conversation to shift to what was certainly on everyone’s mind.
“So what’s up? Anything exciting?” regular host Kelly Ripa teased.
The longtime Miami Heat all-star — who won three NBA Championships over his thirteen seasons there — will be headed to play with the Chicago Bulls on a two-year, $47.5 million deal announced last Wednesday. But as Wade recounted Thursday morning, there were other more nerve-racking things on his mind.
“I was so exited to get here,” he said of the show’s taping. “I was more nervous about this than everything last night.”
Speaking about his experience leaving Miami in exchange for his hometown Chicago, Wade told Ripa, “It’s still surreal. I’m still numb… I’ve been in Miami for 13 years, 13 incredible years.”
“You get a week to decide what you’re gonna do,” he continued about the free agency process for NBA players. “I’ve always envisioned playing,” in Chicago he said, where he idolized the Michael Jordan-led Bulls as a child.
