IMAX Posts ‘The Mummy’ Trailer with Sound Effects Missing, Hilarity Ensues
Update: Universal has been having these taken down everywhere, so we’ve complied with their wishes. It’s still on various social video sites if you search for it, though.
If you have any passing interest in the franchise, you know that “The Mummy” is being rebooted with Tom Cruise as the star. The trailer was released two weekend ago, and it looks fun, but in the last couple days, IMAX got around to releasing their version of the trailer, and there were…issues. Specifically, almost none of the score and sound effects are present for the first half or thereabouts, and it’s hilarious. You get the finished visuals, but the audio consists entirely of actors very obviously in a recording studio yelling “WHOOOAAAA!” into a microphone as their plane nosedives.
The IMAX trailer has since been pulled from YouTube, but as you can see by the above embed, some enterprising folks have saved it. Here’s what the finished trailer looks and sounds like in the part that IMAX made much funnier than it should have been:
The Mummy comes out on June 9, 2017, and here’s the official promotional blurb that Universal has sent out:
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
