In 2011, a Mechanical Failure Resulted in 34 Injuries After Train Crash at Hoboken Station

hobokenterminalexteriorReports this morning out of Hoboken, New Jersey of a potentially deadly train crash involving a New Jersey Transit rail line are reminiscent of an accident at the same station five years ago.

The historic Hoboken terminal — built in 1907 — was the site of a PATH train crash on May 8, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. that left dozens injured. The Port Authority of NY/NJ said at the time that that train did not hit the brakes hard enough when it was pulling into the station hit collided with the bumper that is put in place at the end of the rail line.

It occurred on a Sunday — Mother’s Day of that year, to be exact.

Many victims were taken away in stretchers and put into neck braces as a precaution but no fatalities were reported.
