Joe Scarborough Zings Ocasio-Cortez For Not Yet Opening NY Office: ‘Didn’t Even Know That Was Possible’

Morning Joe host and former Congressman Joe Scarborough took a swipe at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for not yet having her local office open.

Speaking with former Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, Scarborough criticized the freshman representative for going nearly two months since assuming office without having a local shop open for constituents.

“When I first heard this story, I thought it was a hoax,” Scarborough told McCaskill. “Because I didn’t think it was possible to serve in Congress without local constituent offices. Because I’m sure like you, like me, like everybody I know at least, focused on setting up that local office first. Because that’s where the rubber meets the road.”

Scarborough went on to jab at Ocasio-Cortez for spurning her constituents at the expense of building a national platform.

“Nobody came up to me ten years later and said, Hey, thank you so much for that press conference you had about the flat tax. Thank you so much for that press conference you had about getting rid of four cabinet agencies.’ It was, ‘Congressman, you saved our farm.'”

McCaskill, who has previously been critical of Ocasio-Cortez, took pains to compliment her — but agreed with Scarborough on his point.

“I’m not chastising her. I’m not criticizing her,” McCaskill said. “I’m saying don’t miss out on this part [of the job]. You’ll be sorry if you do.”
