Funny or Dire? John McCain’s Campaign Ad Mocks Threat Of Man-Horse Marriage

Conservative radio host and candidate for Arizona’s Senate seat J. D. Hayworth is committed to exposing the Kenyan Birthplace of Barack Obama, has stood up to the grave threat of Man-Horse marriage, and believes that Dracula is real. This is according to an over-the-top and, at times, hilarious political ad put forth by “Friends of John McCain,” who is currently battling Hayworth in the Republican primary. But some critics are seeing this as an un-statesmanlike move by McCain. Is that a fair criticism?

You can watch the political ad in its entirety below, followed by a clip from AC360 last night in which host Anderson Cooper discusses the ad with political pundits Ed Rollins and James Carville. Rollins opens by claiming that McCain would be better served by talking about his very long and distinguished career, implying that this sort of ad is beneath the elder statesman. Carville piles on claiming that this ad makes McCain look too anxious to win, and doing things that “are out of character and he looks ridiculous.”

One gets the feeling that, had McCain played it straight with a predictable campaign ad, he would have received criticism for playing a tired and out-of-touch tactic. Maybe not. But at least this writer got a kick out of McCain’s ad. Watch below and see for yourself.
