Judd Apatow: ‘We Shouldn’t Need Bill Cosby to Admit It’ to Believe Victims
The Associated Press obtained documents revealing that during a 2005 deposition, Bill Cosby admitted to giving Quaaludes to at least one woman he wanted to have sex with. Cosby’s lawyers fought against the disclosure of these documents, saying they would “embarrass” Cosby, but remember, there have been dozens of women making damning allegations about what Cosby did to them.
One of the most vocal Hollywood voices about Cosby has been director/comedian Judd Apatow, who very recently said not talking about Cosby is basically like saying, “Leave the rapist alone!”
There’s already been posts written today about how this should once and for all put an end to Cosby defenders, but Apatow today asked why it would take anyone up to now to believe it.
Apatow provided a brief statement to Esquire:
I don’t think there is anything new here. It is only new to people who didn’t believe an enormous amount of women who stated clearly that he drugged them. We shouldn’t need Bill Cosby to admit it to believe forty people who were victimized by him. I am sure there are many victims who have not come forward. Maybe now more people in show business and all around our country will stand up and tell the people he attacked that we support you and believe you. I also hope Camille Cosby and Phylicia Rashad will now stand with the victims and not with their attacker.
