Just How Sad Was Ben Carson’s N.H. Primary Party?
Considering that Dr. Ben Carson emerged from the New Hampshire primary with fewer votes than any Republican candidate (whose name isn’t Jim Gilmore, anyway), it was to be expected that his election night bash would be a pretty dreary affair.
Representing the entire press corps that had turned out for the Carson event, The Guardian‘s reporter bore witness to a gloomy scene: six clusters of red, white, and blue balloons spread across a sparsely populated room, two barely patronized bars, a bartender who “spent much of her time knitting a blanket.”
“The local New Hampshire television station played during the party. It showed live footage from all the main presidential candidates’ celebration parties. All except this one,” Adam Gabbatt wrote. “As it became apparent that Carson would not stage a remarkable recovery to win in the Granite State, the crowd began to dwindle.”
With remarkable understatement, The Guardian‘s report surmises that the event “wasn’t much of a party.”
