rahami-e1474299348636-2New Jersey law enforcement have confirmed that the wife and mother of Ahmad Khan Rahami left the country only a short time before he became the prime suspect for the recent bombings in the tri-state area.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Rahami’s wife left America a few days ago on a trip to her native country of Pakistan. Mrs. Rahami was halted by officials during a stopover in the United Arab Emirates, and her whereabouts are currently unclear.

Rahami took several trips to Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past several years, during which time he married his wife. Rahami’s wife became pregnant in 2014, and Rep. Albio Sires (D-NJ) said in an interview that Rahami petitioned him to help her get a travel visa after her passport expired.

As for the suspect’s mother, New York Daily News reports that Najiba Rahami, went on a trip to Turkey three weeks ago, and she has not yet returned to America.

Investigators and the media are continuing to deconstruct Rahami’s actions and motivations, one of the most interesting new details is that his father once called him a “terrorist” after a domestic dispute in 2014. Mohammad Rahami stated recently that he had no idea that his son was involved in terrorism, and investigators are also looking into whether Ahmad Rahami became radicalized at some point during his trips to the Middle East.
