Leonard Nimoy’s Son Starts Kickstarter for Spock Documentary
Veteran actor, artist and all around polymath Leonard Nimoy may be gone, but his memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of Star Trek fans the world over.
That’s why Nimoy’s son Adam Nimoy wants to continue the documentary project For the Love of Spock that he and his father began working on in advance of the show’s 50th anniversary in 2016. However, as Variety reports, the funds are lacking when it comes to paying the monumental licensing fees for the photos and video clips necessary to complete the film.
That’s why Adam has turned to the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, where he hopes to raise $600,000 by July 1. The additional funding will not only enable him “to continue with production — which will mostly take the form of filming interviews of Dad’s friends, colleagues and family members,” but it will also buy the younger Nimoy “time in the editing room.”
In addition to Kickstarter, Adam and his fellow filmmakers have also opened accounts on Facebook and Twitter to help spread the word. You can follow either or both of these accounts, or donate at the campaign’s website, if you would like to support the initiative.
As of this writing, the For the Love of Spock campaign has raised just over $2,000 on its first day.
