Limbaugh Mocks CNN As ‘High-Class Trash News,’ ‘National Enquirer With A British Accent’

On his radio program this afternoon, Rush Limbaugh went after CNN for engaging in “dressed-up celebrity news” and “high-class trash” reporting.
“CNN’s new niche is gonna be high class trash news,” the radio host began. “National Enquirer with a British accent,” he said, referencing the network’s primetime British host Piers Morgan.
He also mocked Situation Room anchor Wolf Blitzer for “doing a report featuring pictures of him with celebrities at the NBA All-Star Game or wherever it was.”
Making the case that “low-information news is all the rage,” Limbaugh mocked media outlets for reporting on celebrity news like Kim Kardashian‘s expression of desire to have sex with herself; pop singer Fergie‘s new pregnancy; and the big jewel heist at a Belgian airport.
All while running off these stories, Limbaugh interjected with little swipes at President Obama over the impending budget sequestration, lamenting that “low-information” news viewers don’t know that it’s “Obama’s fault” because they’re too busy learning about Fergie and Josh Duhamel‘s pregnancy — or “Sequester Duhamel,” as Limbaugh put it.
Citing several salacious stories from the front page of the UK Daily Mail, Limbaugh suggested that CNN take a few lessons from the publication:
“If I’m right about what on CNN’s trying to do — dressed-up celebrity news, high-class trash — you know, get celebrities commenting on the news, like Fergie. Ask her to what she thinks about the sequester, and that will be the show. She would the expert guest. That’s the UK Daily Mail. They’ve got the best celeb stuff, the best low-information pictures, stories, you name it.”
