Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument Vandalized Over Presidents’ Day Weekend

Lincoln MemorialThree of Washington D.C.’s most prominent memorials were vandalized over the Presidents’ Day weekend, including two of the most famous memorials to U.S. presidents.

The Washington Monument, the Lincoln Monument, and the World War II Memorial were all vandalized with graffiti over the weekend. All three are located in close proximity on the National Mall.

WRC-TV reports the same individual is thought to be responsible for all three sets of graffiti, based on similarities in the handwriting. Park authorities would not say what the graffiti read, other than that it was “not overtly political or hate-filled.”
