Longtime Obama Advisor Dan Pfeiffer Reportedly Stepping Down

Dan Pfeiffer, one of President Barack Obama’s longest-serving advisors, will step down at the end of the month.

“Dan has been beside me every step of this incredible journey, starting with those earliest days of the campaign in 2007,” Obama said Wednesday. “And through it all he’s been smart, steady, tireless and true to the values we started with.”

Having been with Obama since his first presidential election, Pfeiffer served as communications director for Obama’s first term, then graduated to senior advisor in 2013. Along with David Axelrod and David Plouffe, both of whom have left the administration, and Valerie Jarrett, who remains, Pfeiffer was one of the core of Obama’s original team.

However, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said Pfeiffer understood the need for “fresh legs” in Obama’s final quarter in office.

No word yet on what Pfeiffer plans to do next. Plouffe departed for Uber, Axelrod and former Press Secretary Jay Carney for the cable news circuit.
