Marilyn Mosby Defends Handling of Freddie Gray Case in Vogue Profile

Marilyn Mosby, the Baltimore State’s Attorney who rose to national prominence after announcing charges against six cops in the death of Freddie Gray, has more to say, and in a Vogue profile out today, she sounds off about everything from her family life to the case to Prince calling her on stage.

She admits she was a little taken aback by her instant celebrity, saying, “I don’t think I felt the weight of the case stepping up to that podium. I was thinking, I’m doing the right thing. That’s what I’m here for.”

Mosby has lots of relatives who served as police officers, which she says helps give her the perspective to know “the majority of police officers are outstanding, dedicated, loyal public servants, just like my family.”

Mosby, of course, has come under intense scrutiny for acting too quickly in charging the six cops, and the Baltimore police aren’t too happy with her. There were questions of whether the rioting pushed Mosby into acting too quickly.

This is her response:

“The unrest had nothing to do with my decision to charge. I just followed where the facts led. This is not something that was fast, or in a hurry. From the time that this incident occurred, we were out there conducting our own investigation and working with the police department. There is nothing that we’ve done differently in this case.”
