McConnell’s Democratic Challenger Won’t Say Whether She Voted for Obama

During a panel with the editorial board of a Kentucky newspaper, Democratic candidate for US Senate Alison Lundergan Grimes repeatedly refused to say whether she voted for Barack Obama, either in 2008 or 2012.

Grimes’s opponent, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), has sought to portray her as a liberal elitist with inclinations towards the Obama agenda, and so far, she’s run in the other direction: for instance, this ad in which she shows off her gun skills.

“You know, this election isn’t about the president,” she told the Louisville Courier-Journal editorial board. While she did say that she was a “Clinton Democrat,” and that she’d attended the 2008 convention as a Hillary delegate, she continued to demur when pressed by an off-screen questioner.

“I think Kentucky Democrats know that I’m a Clinton Democrat, through and through,” she reiterated.
