Morning Joe Slams de Blasio’s Bill Collecting Response to Trump as ‘Embarrassing,’ ‘Pathetic’
The administration of New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has been kicking dirt as of late over the rising price tag associated with keeping Trump Tower safe as long as President-elect Donald Trump and his family remain in Manhattan. The Democratic mayor of Gotham sent a $35 million bill to the federal government to help cover the cost of protection services that amount to nearly $500,000 a day from New York tax payers.
The ongoing friction came to a head Tuesday when an unattended bag forced an evacuation of the Tower, prompting emergency and first responders from the NYPD. In response, people in de Blasio’s orbit and those of the Trump transition team got into a war of words over Twitter, a move that the Morning Joe panel slammed Wednesday.
“It’s just pathetic. It’s just sad,” said cohost Willie Geist Wednesday. “That we’ve reached that point where there’s a bomb scare in the lobby and you Tweet something cute about it.”
Mike Barnicle added, “It’s embarrassing for the de Blasio administration.”
In his letter to Congress earlier this month, de Blasio wrote, “This is a highly-trafficked, dense urban environment, and one that presents an unprecedented and unique target for potential terrorist activity.”
