On the last hour of Morning Joe Wednesday — curiously lacking in the eponymous host who appeared earlier from a luxurious woodland retreat — Ari Melber offered his thoughts on Trump’s Arizona (campaign?) rally.
The network’s resident legal eagle, recently rewarded with his own show, used a popular Internet meme to explain why Trump didn’t seem to mind risking his legislative agenda to perpetuate his feuds with both of Arizona’s GOP senators.
Willie Geist set it up.
“By railing against Jeff Flake, the president could give up the razor thin margin Republicans have,” he said, “Why is he doing it? Like so many things it’s personal … it’s because he doesn’t like Jeff Flake.”
“Why is he doing it? Honey Badger don’t care,” said Melber, to some chuckling on set.”It is clearly Donald Trump’s attitude about the Republican party about a lot of other people in the country. It’s a Honey Badger presidency in that sense because it is not concerned about any of the obligations of the office.”
The reference of course is an allusion to the popular Honey Badger YouTube video, which has now been viewed more than 80 million times and spawned memes across the information superhighway.
