Never Before Seen NYPD Aerial Shots Of 9/11 Attack Released
It’s strange to discover that there is a new perspective, literally, to be gained on September 11, 2001 after all these years, but newly released photos of the day provide just that. ABC News acquired the photos — taken from NYPD helicopters circling trade towers after the attack and as they fell — from a FOIA request. More than anything else the shots — the first aerial shots ever seen of that morning — make clear just how much of downtown Manhattan was swallowed up by the aftermath of the towers collapsing. The pictures also weirdly feel very removed, but perhaps that’s just because all the coverage of the day that we are accustomed to seeing has traditionally been from the ground and therefore very immediate.
