New Cameo-Stuffed House of Cards Trailer Here to Make Life Worthwhile

Whoever at Netflix is behind the rollout of House of Cards’ second season apparently has the same sinister sense of humor as the blackhearted show.

The new episodes were already set to drop on Valentine’s Day, which means couples less enthused by schmaltzy restaurant packages than coordinated murder can order takeout. Now some genius chucked the trailer into the ether on the same day Congress came back into session. If you were about to tweet about how evil those fatcats in Washington are, Netflix is here to remind you it could always be worse.

The trailer boasts cameos from Chris Matthews to Ashleigh Banfeld, Kevin Spacey throwing dog meat into a swimming pool because metaphor, lots of breathless talking into cell phones, occasional gestures toward the actual mechanics of governing that the show is ostensibly about, and plenty of phrases like, “I want him obliterated,” and “Let’s make him suffer!”

Near as this humble scribe can tell, the entire second season will be one long metajoke on how powerful Frank Underwood is as Vice President, a position ordinarily not worth a bucket of warm piss—unless, of course, you consider Richard III to be an underachiever.
