New Video Shows Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s ‘High-Speed Intercept’ of U.S. Destroyer
Video released Wednesday shows four Iranian Navy vessels coming within 300 hundred yards of the American destroyer, the USS Nitze, near the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident, which the Navy described as a “high-speed intercept,” occurred on Tuesday during what the U.S. says was a routine transit.
The Navy said the destroyer attempted radio communications 12 times with the Iranian ships and was ignored.
A Navy official said that the Iranians’ actions were “unsafe and unprofessional,” and that the ships “created a dangerous, harassing situation that could have led to further escalation.”
The Iranian vessels eventually turned around, but the Nitze was still forced to change course.
