New Zealand Prime Minister John Key apologized Wednesday morning for, wait for it, pulling a cafe server’s hair, calling it a “bit of banter.” We also would have accepted “spot of bother” or “just a twist of malarkey on the old crikey, it was.”
A server for a cafe leveled the accusations in an anonymous post at the Daily Blog, alleging Key had pulled her hair on numerous occasions, despite her blatant indications that she didn’t like it.
“Even a five year old could tell you that if you pull on a girls’ hair she will not like it, I shouldn’t have to tell THE PRIME MINISTER that I don’t like it when he pulls my hair,” she stated. “I’m telling this story because I’m the only one who can and it seems he needs reminding that he’s not a god, he’s just a man.”
Reporters caught up with Key in Los Angeles en route to Turkey. “When I realized she was offended by it I immediately gave her some wine and apologized, told her I was terribly sorry,” he said. “It was all in the context of a bit of banter that was going.”
According to Key she responded it was “all right, no drama,” which is definitely not how she tells it.
