NRA TV Depicts Thomas the Tank Engine in a KKK Hood to Protest Diversity (Yes, Really)

The Fat Controller will be very, very cross to hear about this.

NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch recently hosted a segment of the organization’s TV programming where she tore into Thomas the Tank Engine and put a Ku Klux Klan-style hood on him…because why not?

Mattel, the toy company behind the children’s TV show, announced a partnership with the United Nations recently in order to promote gender and ethnic diversity in their programming. To this end, Thomas & Friends recently introduced a number of new characters, including a female engine from Kenya named Nia.

Now, while some people might not think this is really such a big deal, Loesch apparently thought it was a very big deal during a segment of Relentless. As Loesch criticized the show for stopping at “Virtue Town,” she eventually presented a graphic of the show’s engines wearing KKK hoods while the train tracks are on fire.

“I mean, I’m looking at this picture and I’m really, really struggling to understand how in the world there isn’t any diversity in any of this. Oh, was it because, I see it. It was the white hoods. And the burning train tracks. OK, fine, fair point. Fair. I get it. Thomas the Tank Engine has been a blight on race relations for far too long.”

Mattel gave a response to New York Times, saying “We are not associated with images that promote hate and denounce any images of our brands that are being used to convey a message not in line with the values of the company.”
