NY Mayor Bloomberg Follows Soda Ban With…National Donut Day?

Throughout the day, New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg has been out and about defending his proposed ban on soft drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces. It sure is a lot of work defending the health and safety of us New Yorkers. He deserves something fun to relax. What’s something he could do? Hmmmm… Oh! How about celebrate National Donut Day!

That’s right, in just a few short hours (9:30am tomorrow morning to be exact), the city will be celebrating the 75th Annual Donut Day! There will be “‘Donut Lassies’ handing out donuts in traditional uniforms, “free Entenmann’s donuts and coffee,” the “largest box of Entenmann’s donuts ever created,” and donuts a whole foot in diameter! How fun!

And to top it off, there’s going to be proclamation letter written by…lets see, what’s this name?…Mayor Michael Bloomberg!

Yikes. Those two situations don’t look good back to back. And Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs certainly wasn’t expecting to talk about donuts during her press conference about the soda ban today. Unfortunately, that’s what a reporter asked her about.

Politicker’s Colin Campbell got video of the exchange and it’s pretty great. I mean, Gibbs quickly pushes past the question. But the thick layer or irony certainly is great. Hell, it’s almost as thick as delicious Entenmann’s cream.
