‘Oh Boy’: CNN Panel Gets Heated After Jeffrey Lord Calls Trump ‘Martin Luther King of Health Care’
“I want to say something here that will probably drive Symone crazy,” said resident CNN Trump-backer Jeffrey Lord.
He was right.
Appearing on New Day Thursday, Lord — one of the most prominent supporters of President Donald Trump on television — got into a heated debate with Trump-critic Symone Sanders over health care. In the midst of the discussion, Lord made a comparison between the President and a major American historical figure which irked Sanders — just as he predicted.
“Think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of health care,” Lord said.
“Oh, Jeffrey,” Sanders said. “Jeffrey.”
Lord explained his reasoning.
“When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the civil rights bill because he said it wasn’t popular, he didn’t have the votes for it, et cetera,” Lord said. “Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm’s way to put the pressure on so that the bill would be introduced. That’s what finally worked”
Sanders wasn’t having it.
“Jeffrey, you do understand that Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten,” Sanders said. “Dogs were being sic’d on them. Basic human rights were being withheld from these people merely because of the color of their skin. So let’s not equate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a humanitarian, a Nobel Peace Prize-winner, to the vagina-grabbing president Donald Trump.”
That last comment produced a spontaneous reaction from New Day anchor Alisyn Camerota.
“Oh boy,” she said, simply.
