Orange Is The New Black Star Calls Out Ageism, Sexism in Hollywood in Twitter Rant

Actress Jamie Denbo, best known for her work on Orange Is The New Black, in films including The Heat, and her hilarious podcast/show Ronna and Beverly is 43 years old. Apparently, in Hollywood that makes her too old to play the wife of a 57-year-old. For the record, Denbo is on the left in this photo:

Denbo took to Twitter recently after she was apparently passed over for a role that would require her to realistically be “married” to an actor 14 years her senior to call out the ageism and sexism in Hollywood:

Apparently, the actors age limit was 38.

When asked to name names, she said she doesn’t want to “ruin” the actor for us, as he’s an “American treasure.”

Denbo is, of course not the first star to address the issue of ageism in Hollywood. Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, who star in FX’s Feud recently addressed the matter in People. Lange said, “At a certain age women are no longer considered a viable or a valuable part of the community — even if that’s when they may feel like they’re at the top of their game. And that’s not just in Hollywood.”

Sarandon agreed with her co-star, saying “All of those gals who had these amazing parts found themselves high and dry later when they were older because there weren’t that many people who were writing them.”
