Earlier this week, it was reported that White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is pushing for a tax increase on the wealthiest Americans as a way to pay for tax cuts for the working and middle-class. Bannon has told associates that he wants the top tax bracket to be over 40%.
Well, on Fox News’ Outnumbered today, co-host Melissa Francis indicated that this was all a brilliant political strategy because now all of the richest people in America are Democrats and all of the working-class folks are Republicans.
“The richest people are liberals and then you have people at the bottom of the spectrum — are dependent on the government who vote Democratic,” she stated. “The middle, the working people, are Republicans.”
After stating that this is probably a clever negotiating ploy, Francis noted that this was also a way for the administration to stick it to those who supported Hillary Clinton.
“The fat cats aren’t the friends of the Republicans any longer — they’re all voting Democrat,” Francis exclaimed. “They all gave to Hillary Clinton. He’s sticking it to those folks.”
After #OneLuckyGuy Juan Williams pointed out that Trump’s administration is filled with billionaires and Goldman Sachs executives, Francis shot back that Goldman Sachs gave their money to Clinton. She then added that she believes this is just a negotiating tactic that is all about tweaking the Democrats.
While Francis may see this as a way for the White House to punish rich Democrats, some conservatives aren’t exactly thrilled with this potential proposal. Anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist called Bannon’s plan a “particularly cruel thing.” Also, the Weekly Standard reported that one administration official told them that they are already beyond the tax hike.
