OWN Postpones Michael Sam Show Two Days After Announcing It

Two days after announcing it, the Oprah Winfrey Network has officially postponed its planned reality series starring recently-drafted openly gay NFL player Michael Sam. The main reason appears to be that having a reality show is actually kind of a distraction for someone who just got drafted into the NFL.

The show would have been about Sam’s journey and preparation for playing with the St. Louis Rams, but a representative for Sam said they spoke to the team and decided to postpone the project. he said, “This will allow for Michael to have a total focus on football, and will ensure no distractions to his teammates. Everybody involved remains committed to this project and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message.”

The president of OWN said that they postponed it because they’re “allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team.”
