A week ago, a mom in Michigan named Stacey Wehrman Feeley posted a photo to Facebook that has now gotten about 40,000 likes and 35,000 shares. The picture is of her young daughter, who is three, standing on a toilet, which Feeley at first thought was funny. When the child explained that she had learned this tactic to survive a mass shooting, Feeley “broke down.”
She wrote that her toddler’s innocence was taken away, then included this powerful paragraph:
Politicians – take a look. This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great grand children and future generations to come. They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats. I do not know what will be harder for them? Trying to remain quiet for an extended amount of time or trying to keep their balance without letting a foot slip below the stall door?
She went on to say that she is not asking for the Second Amendment to be abolished, nor is anyone else. All she wants is some meaningful reform.
Commenters largely agree with her.
There are also commenters who wonder whether the photo is real, which is a theme that is becoming more common as Facebook posts with a convenient political message go viral with more frequency.
