Interestingly, the survey found that 59 percent of “strong” Tea Party supporters also agreed that SuperPACs should be outlawed.
The vast majority of political ads aired in Alabama and Mississippi over the past month have been paid for by SuperPACs, according to data from Kantar Media’s Campaign Media Analysis Group.
Stephen Colbert‘s satirical coverage of his SuperPAC has helped to raise public awareness of the issue.
President Obama, who initially opposed SuperPACs, came out in support of them last month.
“We decided to do this because we can’t afford for the work you’re doing in your communities, and the grass-roots donations you give to support it, to be destroyed by hundreds of millions of dollars in negative ads,” campaign manager Jim Messina told supporters according to Politico’s Glenn Thrush.
