Poll Indicates Conservatives Don’t Approve of Seinfeld‘s Festivus

festivus seinfeld pollingA new holiday-themed poll suggests that Republicans and conservative-leaning voters aren’t the biggest fans of Festivus, the parody secular holiday made popular by Seinfeld in 1997.

According to Public Policy Polling, Festivus had the lowest ranking (24/17 favorability) among the four major holidays about which those polled were asked to register as favorable or unfavorable. Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa were the other three options.

Specifically, Festivus garnered a baseline of 24 percent favorability and 17 percent unfavorability. 42 percent of people who considered themselves “Very Liberal” approved of Frank Costanza’s (Jerry Stillerall-inclusive, anti-consumer celebration. On the flip side, those in the “Very Conservative” bracket didn’t approve of Festivus at a rate of 22 percent.

Unsurprisingly, 25 percent of the favorable crowd voted for President Barack Obama in 2012. Mitt Romney‘s supporters deemed the aluminum pole-based occurrence unfavorable at a rate of 21 percent.

Maybe if Public Policy Polling had asked participants about Festivus specifics — such as whether or not people approved or disapproved of the “Airing of Grievances” — the Seinfeld tradition would have had a much higher rating. Besides, who wouldn’t want a holiday-approved chance to complain about something?
