Rep. Allen West Calls Bobby Rush Hoodie Incident ‘Immature Gimmickry,’ Cites Security Concerns

On Wednesday, Rep. Bobby Rush (D) was kicked off the House floor for wearing a hoodie, which violated the rule against wearing hats. Rep. Gregg Harper (R) said, “Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor.” On Thursday, colleague Rep. Allen West (R) addressed this topic, among others, on Laura Ingraham‘s radio show. Calling the incident “immature gimmickry,” West said security officials were concerned.

“But look,” West told Ingraham, “this is the type of immature gimmickry that we see coming from the other side that does not have any place especially on the House floor or really in the United States.”

They may be laughing now, but security officials were concerned, he said: “Initially they did not know who it was and they were concerned that someone had just walked off of the street or broke away from a tour group.”

Other topics covered during his appearance included Mitt Romney’s “humorous” story that sparked a media frenzy on Wednesday and the Trayvon Martin case.
