RNC Announces Cleveland as Site of 2016 Convention
On Fox News Tuesday morning, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus officially announced Cleveland, Ohio as the site of the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Cleveland beat out Dallas, Texas, in a final round of voting, and has pledged to raise almost $70 million for the convention; GOP officials said the demonstrated ability to raise funds was crucial this time around, after Tampa struggled to do so in 2012.
The city boasts a brand new convention center and a wide swath of downtown development.
More important, Ohio has been pivotal in recent presidential elections, and the GOP hopes the convention will give them a bit of an edge.
Priebus also announced an early date for the RNC, to cut down on any primary fighting and allow the general nominee more time to raise funds.
