Rob Ford Somehow Wins an Election, Becomes Toronto City Councilman
Unsurprisingly, Doug Ford, the equally controversial brother of crack-smoking mayor Rob Ford, lost his bid to be mayor of Toronto last night. But surprisingly, Rob Ford, who dropped out of the race after learning he had cancer, somehow got elected to the Toronto City Council.
Doug replaced his brother in a race he was not expected to win, given the revelations of his brother’s crack-smoking proclivities and Ford’s subsequently erratic behavior. He lost to Progressive Conservative candidate John Tory, though not by a substantial margin: Ford got 330,600 votes, while Tory received 394,900 votes.
Rob, however, won his old City Council seat in Toronto’s Ward 2, where much of his fanbase (“Ford Nation”) resides. It is unclear how much involvement he will have in city politics, however, given his recent diagnosis of liposarcoma, an aggressive and rare cancer.
