On his syndicated radio show Wednesday afternoon, conservative host Rush Limbaugh responded to actor Alec Baldwin‘s suggestion that racism prevents President Obama from succeeding because if he were white, he’d be up by 17 points in the polls. Limbaugh called the claim “out of phase” and responded that being white would actually hurt the president’s re-election chances.
“If Obama was white, he would be down by 20,” Limbaugh asserted. “If Obama was white, this election would be over. If Obama was white, it wouldn’t be a contest.”
“Alec Baldwin is 180-degrees out of phase,” he continued. “It would be the second term of [Jimmy] Carter, and there wouldn’t be a shred’s difference. And there wouldn’t be all this talk about hope and change, and all these slogans.”
