Missouri Governor Eric Greitens announced he will be resigning from office.
Greitens has come under scrutiny for months now over an affair that allegedly involved “non-consensual sexual activity and violence.”s
The governor, who was indicted last month in a campaign finance scandal, announced in a press conference today he’s resigning effective Friday.
“This ordeal has been designed to cause an incredible amount of strain on my family. Millions of dollars in mounting legal bills, endless personal attacks designed to cause maximum damage to family and friends,” Greitens said.
“It’s clear that for the forces that oppose us there is no end in sight. I cannot allow those forces to continue to cause pain and difficulty for the people that I love,” he said.
