Sen. Feinstein: White House To Release Additional Drone Memos Ahead Of Brennan’s CIA Confirmation

Ahead of John Brennan‘s confirmation to become the next CIA director, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said the White House has agreed to release additional Justice Department memos about the Obama administration’s drone program and targeted killing of Americans.

“I have reached an agreement with the White House to provide the committee access to all OLC opinions related to the targeted killing of Americans in a way that allows members to fulfill their oversight responsibilities,” Feinstein said in a statement. “I am pleased the administration has made this information available. It is important for the committee to do its work and will pave the way for the confirmation of John Brennan to be CIA director.”

The memos outline the legal basis for conducting drone strikes on Americans abroad, who are identified as terrorists — a program that has led to some criticism of the president’s administration. Feinstein herself has publicly called for the for the documents to be made available to the panel.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is schedule to vote on Brennan’s nomination on Tuesday.
