State Dept Threatens to Call Security on Washington Free Beacon Reporter
Washington Free Beacon reporter Adam Kredo reported Monday that he was kicked out of a State Department briefing in Vienna, with State Department officials threatening to call security unless he left.
Kredo was in Vienna covering a press briefing held by Undersecretary Wendy Sherman on the topic of the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran. State Department official Melissa Turley spotted him and asked him to leave. When he refused, another official told Kredo, “I’m going to have to get security.” (Kredo also writes enigmatically that Marie Harf was involved in the dispute somehow.)
Central to the dispute appears to be whether or not Kredo was properly credentialed for the event. Kredo claims that he was properly credentialed through the Austrian government, while the State Department said he had to be a member of the State Department Press Corps back in D.C.
The conservative Free Beacon is well-known for being critical of the State Department and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Kredo himself has written about some of their shadier goings-on, and has written pieces critical of the administration’s policy towards Iran.
The Free Beacon, for its part, appears to be taking the rejection in stride:
