‘The Fact Is, I’ll Be Fine’: Lena Dunham Talks Empathy For Those Affected by Trump
Today, Lena Dunham and Bob Saget were both guests on ABC’s The View. Let that sink in and then we can move on.
Amazingly, Saget didn’t say anything extremely vulgar, and Dunham didn’t do anything tone-deaf enough to cause her to trend on Twitter. Both of them seem to have learned from past criticisms, which is arguably a silver lining on the dark cloud of “call-out culture.”
In fact, Dunham offered up a lot of empathy during her time on the panel, which stands in stark contrast to that time she mused that she wished that she could have an abortion so she’d feel like a better advocate.
“I found the night of the election to be so shocking and traumatizing and if I felt that way, I can’t imagine how the people who are so at risk in this country right now must have felt,” she said while talking about her stunned reaction to Donald Trump winning the presidency. “If a rich white girl who is on television is breaking out in hives, then how do undocumented Americans feel? Islamic Americans? Trans Americans? All of the people who Donald Trump has made it so clear he doesn’t consider a human and doesn’t have any interest in protecting? The fact is, I’ll be fine.”
Watch above to see her lay out her argument against calling Trump names, plus hear her talk about her grab-’em-by-the-pussy-themed Halloween costume.
