This DJ Plans to Play the ‘Highest Party on Earth’ on Mount Everest

British DJ Paul Oakenfold is changing the game. According to AFP, the 53-year-old reached Base Camp at Mount Everest, and Tuesday will begin what’s known as the “highest party in the world” and perform a DJ set on the way to the top of the world’s highest peak.
It took four months of training and ten days of walking for Oakenfold to arrive at Base Camp. On the phone, he told the AFP, “I’m not going to pretend it was easy to get here…but it has been a wonderful trek. If you could see the view I’m looking at, it is very inspiring.”

It’s not just the great view that brought him there, though. The three-time Grammy award winner, who has collaborated with Madonna and U2, also aims to use his SoundTrek series to raise awareness about global warming and raise money for charities, including helping survivors of Nepal’s 2015 earthquake. This gig is the first in that series. “I want to support in the rebuilding and to shed light on the environment… I would like to do my bit,” he said.
