Senior Breitbart editor Matt Boyle is blasting the notion that the conservative outlet continues to cover news based on the demands of former chairman-turned-White House adviser, Steve Bannon.

On Wednesday, Business Insider put out an article that touched on how Bannon reportedly got furious with his old outlet over a piece that Boyle wrote back in February. At the time, Boyle wrote that White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus was losing favor with Bannon and President Trump, and that Priebus might soon be asked to resign from his position.

Bannon reportedly berated Boyle over his piece, telling him not to write more critical articles about Priebus while Bannon and the former Republican National Committee chairman work on presenting themselves as friends. Boyle eventually got to interview Trump at the White House, and Business Insider reported that he was given access to major White House staffers in order to smooth things over between Bannon and himself.

On Wednesday, Boyle spoke to The Hill about Business Insider‘s report, where he flatly dismissed the idea that Bannon continues to guide Breitbart’s coverage:

“This is absurd and fake news,” Boyle said. “I never said those things and such instructions never happened since we are a proudly independent news organization.”
