This is Why Ryan Gosling Laughed During That Oscars Screw Up

Finally, some answers. While most Oscar viewers felt an awkward mashup of horror and excitement as the cast and crew of La La Land handed the Best Picture award over to Moonlight after an insane mess-up, Ryan Gosling giggled.

The Internet went insane, and people had a lot of questions. Now, he’s explaining himself.

Gosling is at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas this week, and according to Entertainment Weekly, he explained that when he first realized something was going on, he thought it was some sort of medical emergency. “I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head,” he said. “And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing,” he continued.

On top of that, he said he was also “so thrilled” that Moonlight won. He’s worked with Barry Jenkins, the director in the past, and he said, “It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
