Tim Scott: Baltimore Protesters Create Chaos Because They’re ‘Living in Chaos’

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), one of the few black Republicans currently serving in Congress, weighed in last night on the chaos in Baltimore. And Scott drew from his personal experience to talk about what the people in Baltimore must be going through.

Scott told The Daily Beast that while he can’t understand what pushes someone to loot, “I certainly understand what a hapless, hopeless person does.”

“You create chaos because you’re living in chaos,” Scott said, “If you’re hopeless you do things that seem absolutely inconsistent with logic. You destroy your own communities.”

Scott has also been speaking out in the past week for getting police forces more body cameras, an issue that Hillary Clinton also called for today. Scott released a statement days ago saying this:

I believe that having law enforcement officers wear body cameras provides greater protection for both law enforcement officers and citizens. As the South Carolina Legislature begins consideration of S.47, a number of important questions must be asked and answered in regards to implementation of a body camera program.
