All Clear: Times Square Evacuation Caused By Water Bottles

After the failed Times Square bombing of last Saturday, New York city is certainly on edge. Earlier we reported that a suspicious package had shut down Times Square. We can now report that the package is no longer suspicious – that its not being reported that the offending package contained water bottles. After yesterday’s story in which a typo apparently triggered the stock market crash, we can only ask: has New York lost its mojo? Video after the jump.

Writing for the New York Daily News, Jonathan Lemire reports:

An abandoned white cooler that shut down a crowded stretch of Times Square for an hour Friday contained only books and water bottles, police said.

The report of a suspicious package – the second of the day in the tourist-heavy neighborhood – came in around 1:15 p.m. at Broadway and W. 46th St., police said.

The package was spotted on the pedestrian mall outside the Marriott Marquis Hotel, where guests were asked to stay inside. The bomb squad X-rayed the soft-sided cooler and determined that it posed no danger, police said.
